    I am curious as to how much of a factor plain glass (which always served me well for contact sheets) would be vs. optical glass or AR/Newton glass.
    Anybody tried it?

    The Pelland frames (at least, the most recent) use AN glass.

    Daniel: how much difference does a vacuum frame make for 8x10 size prints? Is it clearly noticeable ?

    They aren't expensive at all. Mine came in a box full of old enlarger items
