Thanks! And no worries about the observation. I used a bit of front fall to keep my viewpoint pleasing for a portrait, and combined that with a bit of front tilt to deliberately place the lower part of her body out of focus. But that said, for this series I usually have my aperture set at f/8, but it was a slightly overcast day so I ended up shooting at f/5.6. The out of focus effect is more pronounced than I'd have liked.
I got lucky, like I said I was messing around trying to do a test shot when I asked her to sit still (she is a great listener and, while usually very mellow, she was extremely relaxed this day). Since my tripod is not here yet, I put the camera on a counter that faces the location she is sitting and was lucky to be at a decent distance (height-wise). I quickly composed and set the camera without even reading the light (Tri-X, 1/30s, f/8)... As I got ready to snap the shutter my son comes over and puts the lifesaver around her neck and I made the shot.
Again, this was all luck and a little help from the LF gods Maybe my background in documenting hectic situations (weddings) helped me a little.
Cheers!
TT that portrait is fantastic!!! Well done!
