cosmicexplosion I'd written a thorough critique of your work but I cannot post it. It's gone and I can't be bothered to re-type it.

I can't seem to find where Andrew asked for his photos to be critiqued.

If I am correct in my assumption that he didn't solicit critique, aren't all of these responses to his image in breach of the Forum rule:

As an exhibiting and qualified Photographer, take mine with a pinch of salt but taste it. You could do worse than pay attention, you could be ignoring all of this.

I rarely post here now, and photographs go up even less. Post here as much as you need to, but don't think you're better than anyone else; a lot of people on this forum are terrible photographers and even worse artists. Most lack any original or creative vision.

That being said most possess very clear goals and high standards of technical skill. That's more than some can say.

Ash - read those lines to your self, aloud.
You your self are no better or more qualified then anyone else.

What makes you more qualified, the fact you are commenting with such air of self importance, Do you have a diploma qualifying you as a an official artist? maybe its the fact your are an exhibiting photographer which makes you qualified...?

And - they did not read much like opinions, more like definitive axioms and assertions about the world, art and personality, that unlike opinions should and could never be challenged.

I'd consider the neg shot and the FB print as working proofs. Neither are worthy of posting unless they really are the best you could have done.

Ash, leaving aside the rest of your unsolicited and self-important tutorial, the comment I have highlighted above really requires a response. Your assertion that one should only post polished work here is nonsense. Once again, this is a forum where all comers can discuss their ideas, find inspiration, and show their work in progress. To cut people down because they have posted something that is simply a developing idea, even if you think it is a flawed idea, ultimately serves to reduce the richness of this place and places like it. If I want to see only polished work that represents the culmination of someone's artistic journey, I will go to an exhibition. Mind you, some stuff that is exhibited is not worth looking at either...

Its hard to type with both thumbs up, so i will put them down for a bit. While might sound a bit abrasive and indeed is unsolicited.. Even in short form its great critique and advice.

apart may be from publishing only super polished work. sometime it helps to publish something in progress and experiments - feedback loop is requires.. Plus we , as males, strive for getting appreciated based on what we done. Females grew up being appreciated mostly for just being there "oh she is such a good girl, cute smile".. Males, when grew up always getting "good boy, well done, thanks for bringing me water.."..
