December 2010 Portraits

I was reading my daughter "The Wind in the Willows" and came up with this idea.

It's my first self portrait. I hate photos of myself...I always seem to be on the other side of the camera (I know I ain't pretty).

It was extremely difficult shooting inside at f4 trying to reset myself in the focal plane after sensitizing the plate.

Holding the position for 13 seconds was a nightmare even with a headbrace. At least I know what I put others through now ;-)

8x10 Ambrotype on broken black glass shot with a Dallmeyer Soft-focus Portrait Anastigmat.

Craig, whatever you went through, it was worth it. A wonder!

Ha, ha....I used to ride one of these when I lived in Hyeres (France). I needed to travel to Milan

I call these sorts of portraits "Charity-Hospital-Insurance Company Portraits" with the required sad doleful eyes... having done about a jillion of them over the years for exactly those kinds of clients.
