Re: My tripod vibrates a lot with my view camera

    if you want to try
take some velvet or cork or rubber and glue it where things meet
    head to QR
    QR to camera
maybe even tripod "plate" to head

i have hollow legs so i sprayed foam inside where i could
maybe that works and maybe it doesnt
I placed a section of tape where the leg locks are to take up any space between them and legs themselves
I have noticed the legs are much tighter after that but if it does anything of benefit outside of that
    who knows

my lightweight camera does not budge nor does it sink

it will get wobbly however when the center column is extended
so you just don't do that or youre extremely delicate when taking the actual photo

OK, I won't. But you definitely need a different tripod. "Different" may include modifications or additions to your existing 'pod. Possibly the problem is in the head, which could be replaced for much less than an entire tripod/head.

Unless you're using movements during the exposure(?) then I wouldn't worry about it. Every tripod will vibrate to some extent, you're never going to avoid this unless you bolt your camera to a granite block. Like the advice above says, just make sure you let the camera and tripod settle for a few seconds before exposure, and shield it from any wind with your body. You should have no problems.

The first thing I'd suspect is the ball head. Try mounting the camera directly on the
tripod platform, without any head at all (even if you don't plan to do this in the field). Right away, you should be able to detect if the ballhead is at fault or not.

I would look at the quick-release plate first, and work my way down. If the QR is too small, i.e. 35mm-camera size, then your camera would wiggle much more than it would if it had a large plate underneath.

Ya This Dakota Jackson guy just pissed on a fellow members sale by posting his negative opinion(unsolicited) right on the OP's sale post. The thing is, it's just not the place to post opinion. I mean there is a section called Cameras & Camera Accessories that is for just that, your opinion.

I know he is on my ignore list & I,m sure he doesn't care. Just cant suffer this kind of negative shit. Easy enough to say nothing if what you have to say is a chop buster. Just downright mean

I think his negativity must be linked to some darkness in his life. I hope he finds a way to lighten up.

I can have my negative moments but come on.

There's not many tripods that don't get rigid when you hang some weight from the middle. Most camera bags have some loop that works for that purpose. Otherwise, there are lots of things that can come loose on a tripod; the center column, the head's mounting screw itself. I've found those 2 things loose on heavily used tripods fairly often.

    I doubt this is right.

If you won't buy the right tool for the job you get low performance junk as you have now.

Lean your camera bag against one leg of your tripod. That will dampen a lot of vibration from the inadequate platform.

Then, learn to use the shift key on the keyboard to capitalize the first word of your sentences when posting on these forums.
as a human factors specialist, a.k.a., ergonomist, i've investigated hundreds, perhaps as many as a thousand, personal injuries from keyboard use and other repetitive occupational activities. many were programmers who worked on keyboards their entire day, every-day, with hobbies at night that included additional keyboard work.

my recommendation has always been to avoid using the shift key for these people. and to use alternative tools such as split-keyboards when the injury process is exacerbated by keyboard use.

there is really no explicit need to capitalize anything on an informal forum such as this. after all... we are not submitting a doctoral thesis or editorial manuscript where the rules of capitalization must be enforced... are we?

    my opinion. bob g.
All natural images are analog. But the retina converts them to digital on their way to the brain.
