    Water heaters

I don't have hot running water in the building that houses my new darkroom so I am thinking of purchasing a tankless electric hot water heater (120v)
Any suggestions or tips on this would be appreciated. I am particularly interested in something that is easy to install and to remove because I only have a 1 year lease.

You are better off buying a three or four gallon point of use water heater. They are available in 110v or 220v and are small enough to fit under a bath vanity. Tankless heaters require too much water to operate economically.

Thanks Rick - how much electricity do the 4 gallon tank heaters use? Are they well-insulated?

They are very economical to run, unless you use more hot water than the average person. When I was a construction super, we retrofitted these in office restrooms on remodels.

    Re: Water heaters

I have 2 point of use electrics and 2 tankless water heaters at my house. I tried using the tankless for the darkroom, but it doesn't turn on until you get over 0.5 gallons/min of hot. It just doesn't work for darkroom use. Therefore, I have a 4 gallon electric in the darkroom now. It is insulated, but not perfectly. I only turn it on when I'm working in the DR and I set the temp to warm. That is a winning combo. Good luck.
