I like that the groom holds the flowers.
I like the hats
I like the hats, the unusual-to-me clothes, and the contrast between the neat/presentable/colorful people and the overgrown/unkempt/drab background.
The gentle side lighting coming from above is nice too.
Drab background?! That's Angkor-Wat, isn't it?
Beautifully unpretentious and sensitive. The coordination of colors helps give a sense of serenity.
Jim -
The moment I saw your portrait I assumed it was not your choice of attire, etc. It just doesn't seem like your style. However, I also think it is very well done, and great that you are trying and learning new things. Great Job!
Here are a few photos that yours reminded me I had. They were taken a few years ago when I was learning to use LF. A friend of mine had been doing a lot of portraiture and modeling shoots and asked if I wanted to come along. Sure! I said - it will be fun to try something different and learn a thing or two. Needless to say I learned a lot! As you stated, there is certainly more pressure involved when people are waiting on you. Suddenly all of those little tasks you used to have plenty of time to think about and do must be done quickly and it's hard not to rush things. It was also pretty funny that we were switching off, so the poor model would go from about 80 photos a minute with the DSLR to about .25 photos a minute with the 8x10 (if I was fast). Now I just look at the photos and laugh - I was so out of my element! But I learned a whole lot about working with the camera and models. I think it was a great learning experience and now I have a lot more confidence doing portraits with the big cameras as a result.
Keep up the good work!
