    I am changing my mind a bit about the Hermagis engraving of "Hermagis". The bottom of the wide stokes look a bit uneven! Perhaps filling up with black enamel (or silver) would have made them even more attractive.

    i will follow that one.
    I small one i have s a nr 5, so a bit smaller
    On the big one i have has no number, but it about 26 "focal lenght so much larger.

    interesting..
    I have an identical (I think) Hermagis aplanat.

    BUT it is no 3 and FL 540mm (about 21") - So a smaller number but much larger FL (?)

    (no protruding back)

    what is the actual size of your lens ?

    mine is 20 cm ( about 7.8 inches) lenght
    diameter of the lenshood is 12 cm (4.7 inch)
    Glass is 8 cm (3.15inch)

    14cm height

    10cm diam. with lenshood

    8cm glass.

    Eddie: that lens of yours: can you handle it? Or wouldn't it be better if I had it?

    pictures (shitti digi I'm afraid) to show the lens in Prague...

    I just noticed that the Hermagis writing looks different from the smaller one i have.
    I has a extra line after each letter.
    Looking at other hermagis pictures on google it looks like they have used several different writings. maybe this indicates an age ??
