Has anyone more info about this Hermagis ?

    Hi All,

i found this (the big one) hermagis yesterday.
It's total lenght is almost 8"
Focallenght from what i measured at infinity is about 25" and it is about f8
serialnumber is 16840. It's hard to find any info about hermagis lenses.
It's not a petzval. it looks like an aplanat to me and it has the same build as the small one. I somehow have a weakness for hermagis. Is it the beautifull writing on the lens.......

    Thanks

    Alex

Very nice Alex! If we compare with Dallmeyer's EFL F.8 24"RR it should a covering capability of 18x16".

I have weakness for engraving too!

then don't go to Prague and if you do anyway, then DON'T visit the FotoSkoda store!

there's an even bigger looking one there - and it is not for sale...

I Love the Hermagis writing too - I have a couple..

I couldn't find an Hergamis aplanat either. The protruding back is atypical for an aplanat/RR. The nearest I could find in bigger aplanats from France is enclosed (but only because of the delicate "retailer" engraving). They couldn't know that they did this over the seam of the brass tubing which has become obvious after aging. I have a similar anon. RR with the same distinguishing mark.

Re: Has anyone more info about this Hermagis ?

Reading VM's section on Hermagis (it is not one of the better sections! - there must be a better french source) I would suggest it is from just before 1880. There is a known serial number on a bought in Darlot sold on a Hergamis camera from 1876 (14,xxx). The text says the RR is known to be from the early 1880's - but that doesn't exclude earlier manufacture. As there seem to few Hermagis RRs - it could be that this WAS a bought-in lens from someone else and just sold with Hermagis cameras - like the Darlot lever objective mentioned in VM?
