Recommendations for Galleries between LA > San Fran

We're traveling next week to visit family, starting in LA and headed up to San Francisco later. I know Fahey/Klein, Stephen Cohen, and Jameson (sp?) galleries. What others might be good for visiting. I like all photography, but am particularly interested in those that feature a good deal of B&W work, contemporary or vintage.

Check out Photography West, in Carmel and Modernbook in San Francisco (49 Geary). Oh, the Monterey Museum also is showing Ansel Adams Museum set. San Francisco also has SFMOMA.

Just to add to what Jon has suggested, 49 Geary St. in SF is a good place for other galleries: Frankel Gallery and Scott Nichols Gallery in same building.

You just have to go to Carmel - it is a must (galleries there already mentioned). You can also go to Point Lobos while you're at it and check out Edward Weston's old stomping grounds. You may want to pop by Russ Levin's gallery in Monterey too as you drive on up to San Fran. Awesome area, that ! Have a great trip.

Annenberg Space for Photography in LA is a jewel. Saw Ami Vitale there last night at Thursday Iris Nights and was struck that society had not dug it's claws into her. She is untouched.

Although she has travelled to 75 countries she had only been to LA once before and never had the opportunity to visit the Annenberg Space. Even she was spellbound.

Go! Admission is free and parking is $1.00 at night if you get validated.
