Help please with V750 and large negatives

My second post here and I'm already asking for help. Please indulge me.

Yesterday I tried scanning 6.5x8.5" negatives on an Epson V750 using Silverfast AI. All work was on a Mac that has 3gigs of RAM. All software up-to-date.

I could not get the scanner recognize the entire negative. It would show only a 6" wide window, forcing me to crop the image.

I was scanning with the film directly on the scanner glass both with and without the large thin plastic "film area" indicator sheet in place. Various resolution settings made no difference. I was attempting to scan at 100% image size at 2400 spi.

A manual for the device was not available, so I couldn't read the directions.

I assume this is pilot error. Any clues as to what I was doing wrong?

have you tried the Epson software? I know others use it with good results, but Silverfast was nothing but nightmare for me. The Epson software is a bit primitive, but works fine.

In the control panel for Silverfast there is 2 tabs. One of the drop down lists labeled Original has Transparency anf Transparency (full area) among the selections. Select the Transparency (full area) item and it will allow you to scan 8X10 size negatives.

I've had similar cropping issues using Vuescan on the 750 and have not been able to find a fix (so I resort to the Epson software, which I think produces decent results anyway). Has anyone had a similar problem or know of a way to get Vuescan to cover the entire 8x10 image?

I had the same problem with Vuescan when scanning neg pages that covered the full area. Had to use Epson for that purpose, otherwise I use Vuescan.

Also, make sure you have the "Film Area Guide" in the proper orientation ... tab on the lower left.

Silverfast is crazy, I use work's V750 and it's always an uphill battle compared to Epson Scan on my V500 at home. The auto frame detect in Silverfast is a cruel joke.
