    Cold Springs near Santa Barbara

    4x5, Rodenstock 150mm, Delta 100, :04 second exp.

Well this image was good and bad.

My wife and I stopped at Cold Springs for lunch. After checking out the location I found this building. At first I wasn't going to waste a sheet of film after getting an exposure reading of (0.0) but my wife said I should try anyway. I guessed at the :04 exposure, it was very dark and hard to make out anything even with my eyes. So I was very pleasantly surprised when the shot came out. I only had to remove some dust, no adjustments.

The bad news was as we were walking back to the car after taking the foto I noticed that someone had run into our car...
no note, nothing, just a dented car. so the shot turned out to be a bit more expensive than the $2.00 I was worried about spending on film.

Thanks Kirk, was playing with the 2D bill board flat ends of the out buildings juxtaposed with the 3D schoolhouse and the mini landscape framed dead center between them.
I was never able to get the tonal balance right until I got a V700 about a month ago and printed this digitally. Man I love the control, and I'm just beginning to use PS (big learning curve) so I hope get better at this digital workflow.

cpercy, excellent range of tones in your photo and a great composition. It's an good example of large format film's capabilities. Well done.

David & Jess, thanks for the kind words.

I've really been having fun going back through all my old negs and digitally printing the ones I never tried before because I knew they were tonally beyond my darkroom skills.
It's nice to be able realize what you visualized.
