Believe it or not at the beginning of the 20th century this was a luxury hotel. Tourism slid and the hurricanes did their damage. Now it is being overgrown by brush and choked by climbing vines.

Hi Joe, yes it is a strange one. I found this shot in some abandoned outbuildings behind Casa Colonels, which is a tourist attraction of the island. The hill in the distance is an extinct volcano, hence the perfect conical shape. I've no idea why the drums were put in the wall, and I can only assume the circular trough was either for feeding animals or some kind of grindstone?
Tree and vines growing near the foundation wall of Hampton Furnace. The Pinelands are full of old ruins. There's little left of most of them.
