    Help getting a Jpeg, Please!

I need some help attaining Jpegs of my images for a digital submission to a gallery.

I need to know the most effective way to do this working from a print, preferably an 11 X 14.

I have a very basic scanner/copier, an all-in-one home device.

Any advice or ways/places to do this would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance, Matt

    Matt,

If you have Photoshop or similar program, you ought to be able to go to
    >file
    >import
    > select your scanner
    preview and scan
    >file
    >save as
    >select the JPG format

    Hope this helps.

The trouble is the 11x14, right?

Have you considered taking the print to a copy shop? (It is a gallery, and you are not printing from it, how high does the resolution of the scan need to be?)

Otherwise, you can scan the art in four or five overlapping sections if all you have is an 8x10 machine. Then you need to use panoramic stitching software to reassemble the pieces. I would not recommend this course of action, as the scanner will try to have different exposure settings for the different scans.

Take a shot of it using a digital camera. Camera on a tripod square to the print. Lights from two sides at 45 degrees. Maybe consider a polarizer if you are still getting glare.

The digital camera photocopy setup is probably the best way to go. I had never printed smaller than 11X14 except with regard to initial 8X10 proofs and so was faced with a similar problem. I have had to go back and reprint all previous work on odiously small 8X10, and now include in my edition workflow 3 - 5 8x10's at the end of a session just to have sufficient "scanably" small "fine" prints for future web or book inclusion.
