Sharpening settings for drum scan file?

    Folks,

I've received my first 600 MB Tango drum scan (4x5 slide) from West Coast Imaging.

My past experience with digital files is with DSLR raw captures and home scanned 35mm film. For these files, two-stage sharpening with PhotoKit Sharpener (one stage for the image, and one stage tailored to output device) has given me pleasing results.

I'd like to continue using the output sharpening from PhotoKit for this image. When I try the capture sharpening, it feels like there is still detail in the file that the capture sharpening phase is not bringing out.

If anyone has worked with these kinds of files before and would like to offer some sharpening settings as a starting point, I would appreciate it.

I plan on trying different settings and printing proofs of small sections of the 20x30 print.

    thanks,
    Vijay

Capture sharpening is low level and can even be done before you start making adjustments.. It isn't intended to be a final sharpening. Use the appropriate output sharpening when you are ready to print.

Yup. what he said. view at print size. In my experience, the print will show slightly less sharpening than what you monitor does.

I tried this setting and it works well. Brings out the grain and thus the maximum sharpness that is in the slide.

Never thought about a radius that low!
