    Printing from Acetate

    Evening all.

I want to create this image:

Originally I wanted to lay the 4x5 negs over one another and simply contact print them.
However I found that where the negs overlap creates a blank patch on the paper as a much longer exposure is required. This is a quick mock up of what was happening:

So instead I scanned the negs and made this on photoshop:

I want to print it onto acetate and then contact print it. Doing this will allow me to line up the negs easier. I can also control the exposure of each individual neg.

Does anyone have any tips for this process. Or alternatives?

    Regards
    Mike

Well, yeah - what did you expect? You could cut up the negatives to conform to your plan, but then you wouldn't be able to use them for anything else. Maybe that's OK.

Don't cut the negatives- that can cause damage to them beyond the cut mark- the emulsion can start coming off or buckle etc. I think your only reasonable solution is digital stitching.

I expected it to take more exposure but not as much as what happened.

Have them drum scanned, do your photoshop work and have a new neg made to contact print. Email Oleg at Chicago Albumen Works. Download their brochure. This will give you a REAL silver negative to contact print.
