Surveryor Tripod and Camera mount:$50 New

I just picked up a new aluminum surveyors tripod with camera adapter for under $50 total. When extended the legs don't lock into 120 degree segments and its colors are silver and surveyors orange. However for the times i need to take my camera into marshy or salty water its worth the $50. You can extend the legs and lock into position for heights from a few inches to over 6 feet.he camera adapter is a round machined aluminum plate that is attached by a 1/2 inch brass screw built into the tripod. The adapter is a 1/4 inch thread so you need to get the 3/8 inch adapter.

I had it in salt water this past weekend in Essex MA and it works fine!

Great tip! Where did you get the adapter?

The adapter came from the same place that I got the tripod from! The adapter is a solid machined aluminum fitting. I have to say other than the legs not locking in position like a "camera" tripod does the functionality is the same as other tripods.

Any idea how much weight it can hold?

Did you look at the photo? I would hazard a guess, in technical terms, plenty.

It even has a hook for your backpack/camera bag/water bottles/bag of rocks for additional stability.

I don't have a decent LF-capable tripod and such tripods are expensive...over $100 and probably over $200 for a decent one. I have a ball head kicking around so I've thought about buying a construction tripod and adapting my ball head to it somehow. They look insanely sturdy, I just wish I could find a black one.

Paint? I know painting aluminum is tricky, but not impossible?

You can treat aluminum with alodine and then paint with a primer, followed by your color coat. Order the alodine stuff from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty.

    Looks can be deceiving!
I did look at the photo and even went to the Seco website. I have an 18"x24" camera that needs a sturdy tripod and was hoping someone might have specs available.

Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude. I don't think in terms that massive.
