You do shoot nice cars, don't you ...

So - after a long time another photo of mine emerges - this time the subject is a beautiful Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato which I photographed during the 1. Schloss Bensberg Classics car exhibition & rally.

It was a really interesting events taking place in front of very prestigious hotel close to Cologne. The whole event had a bit of "top 10 thousands" (hey! Mr Kaufmann was there too and gave a voucher for a X1 to the winner) atmosphere and there were not too many visitors - but thanks to my Rolleiflex T and Tachihara I got some recognition by the Leica crowd - I was even photographed by a preproduction Leica X1

But here comes the shot finally - taken with my favorite Fujinon 125 CMW on expired Kodak E100G. And yes - it was scanned with the Microtek F1 (for those who came across my thread concerning the problem with this scanner ..)

Well, not that nice! There are lots of Aston Martins and Bentleys here in Scottsdale... I just have to befriend one of them

I used to love shooting my Jaguar S-type (not LF, though)... now I have a boring Lexus RX400h hybrid.

But I was able to shoot this... I sent one to all my old flames to show them the "Other Woman"

I shot many Aston Martin images, though only with smaller cameras. On 4x5, I have this trio of Ferrari automobiles to offer.

Now that is a classic car. Why is it that the only British sports car manufacturer that was able to do good looking designs was Aston Martin? Maybe because they used Italian designers for the coach work.

You should make a visit to the "Festival of Speed" at Goodwood one year. They run a hill climb which has classic and modern cars. Much less formal than a normal racing meet and you can mingle with drivers, of which there are many very famous ones, and get up close to the cars for pics.

Aaaah Aston Martin, Bently and Jaguar, British cars for Gentlemen. You chaps have taste. Don't forget Land Rovers for when one is shooting in the country (Ferraris? Nice to look at but a bit pointless, cousin Charles's kept breaking down)

The gentlemen for whom the Jaguar XK series were made were gentlemen who didn't mind being able to drive their cars for only a month or two out of every year, the rest of the time their Jaguar sat in the shop waiting for parts to arrive from Roosevelt Motors in Washington, D.C., which in turn was waiting for parts to arrive from Great Britain. At least that was the situation with my XK150 and with every other Jaguar owner I knew back then.

I've only known one person who owned a Ferrari. He lived in Miami and his Ferrari over-heated just sitting at a stop light so he could only drive it on roads without traffic lights. Which in Miami severely limited its usage.

Jags have always been Del boy cars IMO. Favoured by criminals as get away cars and the police in years gone by. More recently used as a term for one of our politicians known as "Two Jags" and even more recently as "Two Shags" but that's another story.
For people in other countries they seem exotic.
The same in the UK, BMW's and Mercs seem exotic but go to Germany and for the locals they are nothing too special. I guess its just rarity or being different that attracts people to them. Astons on the other hand are exotic even if they are homegrown.

Let's get this bumped to the image sharing section. I hope to be posting to it often in the next little while. I'm planning a small show at the local car club clubhouse in the spring. Just doing some work prints to help narrow down the choices.

    Critiques and suggestions most welcome.

I've got a '69 E-type OTS. It's often out of service, but parts are only a few mouse clicks away thanks to the Internet.
