Richard Garrod in View Camera Mag, Sept/Oct 2009

Latest edition of View Camera includes a portfolio and thoughtful essay by Richard Garrod. I've appreciated his work ever since seeing the video on California Photographers. The magazine edition, one of the best, also includes portfolios by Roman Loranc, Steve Rosenthal and others. Well done.

Dick is a class guy. I met him at a Charles Farmer workshop in 2000. Eager to teach and listen. Not to mention, a great photographer, too.

Dick is as wonderful a person as he is a photographer. He has also published a couple very good books. Worth checking out if you have not already. "Visual Prayers" and "Visual Metaphors".

I have both of his books and I think his work is first rate. And his books are very reasonably priced. Jim

I found this issue of VC, like the last issue, to be well above average. I liked the Richard Garrod article although the text was a bit hard to read (probably a combination of too much 'art speak', and a hopefully temporary vision problem at my end), but the images were wonderful.

The article on New England Churches was exceptional (reminded me a lot of the Texas Church project, and also Paul Wainwright's New England Meeting Houses), as was the piece on one of my all-time favorite photographers, Roman Loranc.

Sadly, the issue continued some of the unfortunate editing problems that VC has had for the last several years. The one thing that I've learned as the Editor of an international technical journal is that there is no excuse for sloppiness.

Well stated. I have known Dick for over forty years and admired his work for as many. Those unfamiliar with his work are in for a real treat with his latest book, Visual Metaphors.

I knew that Dick would be represented in View Camera magazine, and there is no one more deserving, in my opinion.

Merg, thanks for the link. Inspiring work and I can see Brett's influence in Dick's work. Great visual interpretations and the printing is first rate.
