Natural forms

I looked at some of the threads here--trees, churches, landscapes--and didn't think my photographs fit those categories. I am interested in natural forms revealed through close study of details, not necessarily by scenic views of grand scope. At the same time, I like to observe these details in the context of an environment, rather than in a controlled setting like Blossfeldt (though his work is brilliant and profound).

Not every photograph I take is in furtherance of this observational project, though many are; I will post them here as I add to the diary on my site, which will contain more detailed writings about my approach as it evolves. Of course these will be large format photographs.

The first is a scanned 8x10" print I made from a 4x5 negative. I used a Crown Graphic with a 135mm Xenar lens. The film was Fomapan 100 (Arista.EDU 100) rated at 64 ASA and developed for seven minutes. As noted on my site the original print has more subtle contrast than the scan, with more highlight detail and a softer feeling of light. While this project is in part for myself, to record my thoughts about photography in an organized manner, comments are appreciated.

Did you have the sense, eschatologized, when you were present shooting the squirrel image, that its death was anything to do with all the push-pins and cigarette butts around it, or was that quite incidental? I know they are prone to eating all kinds of things they find that can sometimes be harmful to them.

Just a detail noted, in passing. Certainly a powerful mood in this sombre scene. I look forward to seeing some others - thankyou.
