    is it worth fixing?

an older Soligor Spotmeter II was given to me but it doesn't seem to work
when turned on the needle moves to the center position and stays there
it doesn't react to changes in light
looks to me like the light sensor is defective

I have seen these go on Ebay for around $80, which causes me to wonder whether it is worth getting it repaired. I suspect most repair costs would be at least that

if I wanted to get it repaired who does this work

    thanks

IMO, It would be worth it if the repair cost no more than $100-120
If you purchased something used you would need to have checked and calibrated anyway.

Hope this isn't overly simplistic, but have you tried new batteries? You may also be able to find and download instructions for this meter at www.butkus.org.

He has tons of instruction manuals for long out of production cameras and meters.

    Good luck.

    lenser,
yes I put in a new 9v battery
and did download a manual from that site
on Photonet I saw a post which suggested that the Capital spot meter
is generally equivalent and that is the one which I downloaded
the actual Soligar manual doesn't appear to be available free online

anyone know who could repair it?

    thanks for the feedback

Richard Ritter in Vermont does repairs on these and has an excellent reputation. http://www.lg4mat.net/

Not to take anything away from Mr. Ritter, I and others have had great service from:

    Quality Light Metric Co
    7095 Hollywood Blvd Ste 550
    Los Angeles, CA 90028

Of course it is worth repairing. I have a sacrilegious attitude that repairing broken photo equipment fulfills a mitzvah, one of God's commandments, specifically Repair of the World, or Tikkun Olam in Hebrew. Now I have got a Weston Ranger 9 that needs adapting to a modern battery and a Rolleiflex TLR that needs an enhanced focusing screen and a good cleaning.
