OS X + Snow Leopard: Epson more proactive this time

I got an email from Epson the same day OS X Snow Leopard was released, containing a link to this support page:

    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...rd&RRID=_NULL_

Good Heavens: They give you driver downloads for printers and scanners. which support the latest version of OS X.

    Way to go, Epson !

But not all printers, my 9800 will still require Rosetta for the time being...

Have you tried running Windows under VMWare Fusion ? I run Windows 2000 that way, on the rare occasion that I need to run some old programs that are Windows-only.

No updated drivers for the Epson 4000 either.

Anyone using ImagePrint 8, or otherwise, with Snow Leopard?

Way to go, Epson???? There isn't a single printer driver on that list including all of their current printers that are directly supported in 10.6. Not one. They ALL require you to download and run Rosetta as a very clunky work around. Way to go.

Looks like the same Geniuses running the Epson Store were also made responsible for writing the drivers. Perhaps Epson should stop keeping them isolated from printer and ink engineers? Or even better, swap them with the local burger place for some underemployed technical talent...

Apparently, the problem is with the old installation software package (Vise) Epson is using to deliver brand new, OS X Snow Leopard-native drivers!

According to this article over at LL, Apple is cutting a deal with Epson to host the drivers on Apple's servers to avoid the problem.

Kudos to Apple, they seem to be doing all they can to support their product and their users properly, but Epson is simply to inert to update obsolete installation wrapper package AFTER writing brand new drivers...

    Quo Vadis, Epson?

So, would I be right in assuming that, after installing the drivers, I can uninstall Rosetta?

That's how I understand the article. But... I don't own the Epson 9900, I have not installed the Snow Leopard yet and hence I cannot speak with authority on this.

If you are using a Mac and have doubts, you should contact Apple. They've been pretty good in resolving these sorts of issues. And since they will apparently be hosting those drivers, they should know the answers.
