First use of a new-to-me camera and film type -- not too bad, but may not be a keeper, we'll see.

When you are up next, we'll visit it. Over the past 30 years of photographing this area of the redwoods I have lost several favorite big-leaf maples to old age and storms. It is hard to say how long this one will be around. That odd branch on the right that goes down, then turns upwards, gives it some character, but also some imbalance that hopefully will not bring it down before its time.

This tree is unique and that is what drew me to it the first time I saw it. The light is something right there! 11x14 is great isn't it! The big carbon prints are even better.

A recent carbon print made during a workshop I gave.

Still needs to be refined -- there is a area with no highlight detail on one of the foreground Alders on the left. I will be increasing the sensitizer concentration from 4% to 8% this week-end and give it another go.

Gravure is very special. Paul Strand chose gravure and he had learnt how to make carbon prints at the NY Camera Club in the very beginning. The perspective and no face is very Sam Wang but the sandpaper and look of the print is all yours.

first of all: this is polymer gravure, a recent danish version of the old kobber gravure technique..
    much quicker - much safer.

better? jury is out arguing I think...

Second: I have never heard of Sam Wang.....

thank you both for your comments.

I understand the difference and my opinion is that it is just snobbery.

They are mostly clothed here though so no examples of that perspective but in his book it predominates.
