I was once of that mindset but I'm glad I took the plunge. It's been liberating as far as creativity goes, for me. I love being able to bounce between printing with film or digital negs. Yes, it was a HELL of a learning curve!

I am in mid-plunge now. Just beginning to appreciate cheap generic ink for my old R2400 and the colour of cyanotypes made by me. Small starting steps but in the right direction.
This past Saturday I saw collodion chloride POP prints for the first time and fell in love with their looks. Now to source collodion in Canada if possible...

Nanaimo is a great place. Just a quick ferry ride for me and I'm back on the Island that I love. Whenever I took Japanese friends or relatives there, they would chuckle at the name. nana is seven and imo is potato.Your city's name eluded me, so I Googled, and I found, "Bathtub Racing Capital of the World".
Sounds like a fun place!
