Yes, many factors. The first photo (velvia) had a 2-stop soft edge filter, the second (portra) a 2-stop hard edge. 3 stop would have been better in both cases to reduce the amount of photoshop action, but I did not have those filter at the time. I did not realize that filter could also affect the perceived atmospheric distance, I need to understand this better...

I say that I agree with you. The light was quite warm but I got carried away with a magenta memory during the scan. Thank you for pointing this out.

It looked like a natural tetris . And steeper in reality than in the picture.

In most cases we perceive distances by a lightening of tonal values as the distance increases. Far mountains are lighter than closer hills, etc. Contrast tends to decrease with distance, also. Using grad filters can reverse this tonal relationship. This can be seen in your first image. The rocky point in the background, along with the trees (especially on the skyline) have been darkened. To my eyes this brings the background forward until it almost hovers over the foreground instead of receding into distance. This is not meant to be criticism, it a just a personal choice of how one wants to create ones image.

Thanks Marco. The lighting was perfect and the wind was low and Fuji Provia 100F captured the native California grass perfectly.

This is the last image I shot in my trip to Acadia National Park. This place is a little bay called Monument Cove, because of the stone structure on the right of the frame.
It is a sunrise shot, but the golden light was dimmed by some distant clouds. I find the soft light in line with the sense of peace of that morning.

I used the formula for the hyperfocal distance to get everything in focus, since the three on the bottom left was pretty close. Unfortunately, I did not properly zeroed the camera movements, and a hair of front swing caused the left background to go slightly out of focus. It's not too bad anyway, as I find a slight blur less disturbing in the background than in the foreground. Still, a rookie mistake.

This was shot on 4x5 Portra 160 and an 80mm lens.

The shot was almost ruined by sea pollution, if you want to see more details about it I made a short video about it.
