Interesting story, while setting up the shot, the lightmeter's battery died ...I downloaded a lightmeter app on android, and hoped I'd get in the ballpark...
Deval,
Interesting shot, as a suggestion - if you work with wet printing - would be to play a bit with the light trails on the ground with split contrast or similar technique to make it "come" to the scene.
I like your "open shadows" approach, probably by the average exposure the cell phone app metered. Pyrocat came just there.
Cheers,
Renato
Renato,
Thanks for the tip. I tried placing the shadows in zone 3.5-4 knowing that I could print down. I also knew I was using pyrocat so that gave me a confidence to let the highlights fly. I figured with the smartphone meter who knew where it would end up...
I was going back and forth about split contrasting in photoshop with the foreground. On an initial attempt it took away from the shoreline so I ditched it, but I think I'll have to play around with it some more.
I'm sure there is a sweet spot between using the light as a leading line and letting it be distracting.
I'm planning on wet printing it later this week so I'll definitely play around with it. Thank you for your constructive feedback...very helpful

Interested in seeing the result of the foreground experiments. Looks great as is anyway!
