I'm not sure I've ever seen a photograph improved by the inclusion of the film edge, but I think this could look even nicer if straightened, cropped (film edge on left) and adjusted a bit.

It's a great image.

I guess some people like his work more than others.

Some people do....(wink, wink).

I saw them when first exhibited in the 80s at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and was blown away. Like most works seeing them in person was a delight--the size and physical presence of the prints made quite an impression. Film edges notwithstanding, of course!
