    Thanks everyone. It was sort of a funny and perhaps classic situation. I made one image looking south, waiting a bit for the sun to come out enough. Then I turned around to look north and saw this, set up and had to wait a bit for the sun to come out again. Moral of the story - turn around first!

    Really nice shot, love it. I too have learned to turn around. Sometimes "the" shot is not where you think it is.

    One of my few moon images – just after it breaches the smog above a river valley.

    The moon is just shy of zone 7 (for surface texture), putting the nearest hills into the night. It was important for me to include the end of the central mountain ridge (far left), which pushed the moon to the right. Also important was enough light to reveal the close hills through the v-notch (lower left).

    Thought I'd show the film borders (trimming notches on right) to suggest how a 240mm lens captures the moon on 4x5 film...
