Deardorff reducing back question?

will a polaroid 405 back fit in a deardorff 8x10 to 4x5 reducing back?

what about the polaroid 550?

i have a feeling these polaroid backs are too big but i haven't tried..

If it is an original reducing back by Deardorff, probably not.
Many after market adapters were made in a manner to deal with this problem.

I have a Polaroid 545i back and I just tried it on my Deardorff reducing back and, YES, it does fit. My back is a genuine Deardorff. It has a recessed area just in front of where the film slides in. I kind of wondered why. Now I know as without the recess, the Polaroid holder would not lie flat.
What I can't answer is how much different the 545 holder is from the 540.

Polaroid backs fit but it's the 612 roll backs that are to thick

A Polaroid 545 holder is the same thickness as a standard 4x5 holder. they fit anywhere a standard holder fits. The 405 & 550 pack film holders are thicker. About an inch thick based on looking at them. I have both (405 & 550) and they will fit in my Zone VI back. It's a very tight squeeze.

This is not really true. The 545 holder bulges at the end. If the Deardorff reducing back were flat all the way across, the 545 holder would not fit. Since my Deardorff back is recessed along the side where a film holder is inserted, the holder will fit and lie flat. See attached pics.

BTW, Wayne is pretty much correct on the thickness of the main body of the film holder of a 545 being the same as a standard 4X5 holder. The problem is all the stuff attached to the end causing interference on certain cameras.
