which web host should i use?

hello all,

i am trying to make some kind of a website for my photography.....i know very little about this. it makes my head spin trying to figure it all out.

i have a domain name. now i need some place to host it. you are all photographers so you have a basic idea what i need. i am not sure myself. who do you use? what should i expect to pay? any other suggestions?

sorry for such an open ended question. thanks for the suggestions.

hosting space is usually anywhere from $5 to $10 a month for the normal basic hosting and space. I've been using dreamhost.com for the past year or so, and have been pretty satisfied.

I switched to Lunarpages two years ago and have three sites hosted there. They are having a special $4.95 monthly fee for unlimited space & bandwidth at the moment. I have been very pleased with their service, server side offerings, and prices.

I've been using MobileMe which is the latest iteration of .Mac. Apple hosts this and charges $99/ year for more space than I could ever imagine I would need. I used the i-Web software that came with my i-Mac and it seems to do the job. My registrar for my domain is GoDaddy and they were able to forward my domain names (registered over ten years ago) to my MobileMe address. It works flawlessly. I type in www.razeichner.com or www.bobzphoto.com and it takes you right to my site.

I've been using Web66.com for several years. Plenty of space and bandwidth, database and the other usual things you need for a commercial website, and reasonable. The email servers seem to be solid as well. Tech support is responsive when you have an issue they need to look at.

I've also been using Lunarpages for two years now, with no major problems. I appreciated the fact that they sent out an email alert to existing customers offering an opportunity to take advantage of the $4.95 promotional rate. I'd be very comfortable choosing them again if I were launching another site.

If you anticipate ever hosting photos of nudes on there, make sure that you find a host that is adult content friendly. Some hosts will not only shut down your site, and cause uneeded inconvenience, but will void your agreement, stick you for fees (or refuse refund of services paid for in advance) and be a general pain in the ass. Even though you may not interpret it as pornography, the morals clause of your hosting agreement usually doesn't allow you to define it. They do.

I've been using IPowerWeb.Com and like them. I've used them for over a year. They also have a special for $4.95 per month. Nice thing, they provide telephone support. That's pretty good for the price.

That's my hosting site. I register my domain names at register.com. I like to keep the hosting site and the registration site different.

anything i need to look for in a host site?
so lunarpages say this:

You agree not to run a banner exchange, free adult tgp (thumbnail gallery post) and/or free adult image galleries on your website. You understand and agree that shared server space is for business and personal website operations purposes only and not for unrelated data storage.

so no nudes with them right?
