.,. Or smoke pours out of the 3mp digital camera hardwired to the 285 (for fast AC power supply recycling) suspended 2 feet above the camera on a flash bracket ?
-------
That (knowing full well there was a 500v+ spike on the dvom) as an excuse to pick up some opto and rf triggers... and that array of speed lights in better times
AND after it all seems to be working right replacing the dslr
with the 4x5 .,.
Maybe thats why almost all of my 4x5 lenses have flash sync,
even the focal plane shutter in the SG has flash sync for
barrel lenses .,.
Another LF mystery may have just been solved. Thanks !!!

Good thought. I have two problems. One is that if the subject can move it will between the time I've focused and the time I'm ready to shoot. A parallax-corrected RF that will work at magnifications from 1:2 to 1:1 would help; I'm not sure that the XLRF can do that. The other is that I'm trying to do the impossible; I can't get enough depth of field and image quality.
Cheers,
Dan
Range finders on the Graphics work, but not all that well. GG has always been preferred over RF. A cool technique is using a 35x loupe with a clear piece of glass, but a back or film holder has to be put on before the exposure, so subject movement out of the acceptable near far range is problematic.
I've been working hard to decouple those two. Care to elaborate if movement in the near far envelope is not already a bust ?
If you'll send me a pm with your e-mail address, I'll send you the spreadsheet I use for designing flash rigs. In addition to calculating exposure errors given the rig's geometry, it calculates diffraction-limited resolution given effective aperture, DoF given the usual including CoC, and how big a print will still look good.
Bad news all 'round most of the time, and my shots unfortunately bear it out. The best I can do is shoot at fairly low magnifications, otherwise I'm badly pinched.
Cheers,
Dan
Fair enough, I've got a cupboard full of the old FF33's that burn for 1.5 seconds, but bulb is bulb and stobe is strobe. I'd be interested to know what he gets with his 283 on the focal plane shutter
BTW I have saved a whole bunch of little ring light strobes from old Polaroid industrial cameras if anyone wants to play with them.
VIP known strobist is Annie Leibovitz
So then, this is just improvised off-camera flash?

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!
