Commando Cloth - for what?

A quick question, if someone has counsel for me... among the few items left in Ted's studio is a brand new "Commando Cloth" -- labeled "10 oz" (and I'm told they used to be "16 oz"), 54"x15'... my guess is that he bought it to use as a backdrop, but I'm guessing because I don't know what else these are used for. Am I right? Or do these also make usable dark cloths? Any advice on the functionality of this thing for photographers would be appreciated. TIA.

Been there... so this is strictly for blocking light at windows, backdrops, etc. Thanks, as always, GPS.

In wet plate it can be used to make the shroud for a portable darkbox.

Not really suitable for dark cloths since it's got fire retardant particles that aren't good for your lungs. At least not good for mine. In the movie biz we use it for windows and also sewn into flags for controlling lights. It's about $500/roll and I've seen rolls get used up in a matter of minutes.

Thanks, Vinny... I needed to be able to rule out "dark cloth potential," and there it is! Sounds like the best idea is to get it to a local production company of some sort. Again, thanks.
