I first saw the coke ovens (on the way to Marble) a few years back but when I drove through 4 weeks ago, they had started to restore them and were 1/2 way done. I don't understand what they are or why someone would want them restored but . . . They are quite interesting in morning light.
These are different ovens about 40 miles from Redstone/Marble. There are several old sites here in the county. Coke is a purified coal (nearly 100% carbon) used in blast furnaces and for making high carbon steel. You bake coal in ovens to drive off impurities.
In this site there are maybe 25 ovens all in a line, largely overgrown as you can see by the sage.

I used a Cambo Wide camera with a 5,6 65mm super-angulon lens fitted with a 2 stop Lee ND grad filter, Fuji Velvia. Exposed for about 4 seconds at f/22.
Thanks for looking, Frank
