Very good sense of volume and space achieved with what looks to be a difficult piece of landscape to work with.

Thanks, Vaughn. I arrived in Cathedral Valley at sunrise and then spent about an hour running around like a chicken with its head cut off before I finally settled down and started figuring out some photographs. Now I need to go back and do it better. :-)

This image has a very ethereal feel to it, which makes you stop and think. Does this area have this feeling, when you're there, in-person?

Both yes and no. It's a place like nowhere else. And facing the opposite direction is the large glacier lagoon filled with broken off blue-green almost icebergs. Ethereal, yes perhaps.
Thing is, you are not alone. This is the south coast of Iceland more or less on the the main ring road so there are loads of people like you. Tourists, photographers, tour buses and so on...
So it depends on what you are expecting I guess.

To lose the crowds you need to go much further east to the East fjords and beyond.
