We have to deal with this issue in work all the time. The best way as stated many times before is to watermark and use web-sized / quality images.

Then if you find them being used and someone has gone out of their way to circumvent this they are liable for breach of copyright.

However this is the internet and really 50%+ is purely based on evil. No matter what people would like to believe the illegality will always prevail no matter how hard you try, there is always a workaround! So apply common sense and make anything crippled where you can without compromising your artistic intent.

    Hi, Walter,
Could you possibly advise me how to make and place a watermark in an image?
    Thank you, and regards

In Photoshop I created a transparent layer and overlay that on my existing images on my site. When you right click and copy the image, you will copy & past the transparent layer. So far that I know it works.
