    Tehachapi! In Infrared......

I don't have a whole lot of use for digital cameras, I took an old Panasonic Lumix with Leica zoom lens that was over $700 back in 2004, now worth about $50 and sent it off to a certain repair shop for them to remove the IR/UV blocking filter off the sensor and replace it with a clear glass, now the camera is truely "Full Light Spectrum" capable.

Using a Hoya R-72 (720NM) super deep red filter gets some wonderful results, photos have been enhanced a bit in photoshop to raise the contrast and boost the small amount of color that gets past the Hoya R-72 filter.

Normal B&W Infrared is easily accomplished by using a 800nm or higher pass filter, I like the R-72 at 720NM because it lets a bit of visible spectrum light through.

Tehachapi is a fun place for Infrared railroad photos!

Looks like you got some great results. And for sure, Tehachapi is an excellent place for some train shots. I think the grade is more of a challenge for trains than it is for heavy trucks.

I have a D3000 and I've shot it with an 87C in front of the lens. Exposures are on a sunny day are usually 30s @ f/4ish. This one I shot through my classroom window...

It looks like such a huge space for so few accommodations in it.

Nice shot, Steve. This looks like the lobby of the hotel a coworker was telling me about back in 1968. At that time they hosted an annual model airplane competition. The planes were powered by rubber bands and made out of balsa and tissue paper. The competitors used long poles to tap the leading edge of wing and put it into a bank so that it would circle within the dome. As I recall, some of the planes could stay up for as long as 20 or 30 minutes. Do you know if they are still having this event?

So I found this interesting little lens...a Zeiss 180mm f/2.8 "Olympia" Sonnar, but marked simply as "Jena." The mount is Exakta but I was able to friction-fit a drilled Nikon body cap over top of the mount and get it onto my F-mount cameras, though it falls short of infinity. Turns out the lens is bloody sharp, saturated, and quite simply beautiful. 18-blade aperture, almost perfect performance wide-open. And I paid $54 for it, including shipping. Here's a shot I grabbed while shooting a birthday party for one of my best friend's son:

Oh yes. I passed by there last Wednesday, after dropping off 6061T6 plate at a machine shop in Petaluma. Been by there many times and never knew that the raceway was right there next to Highway 37.

Tuco, it's huge place with lots of things to do and see.. lots of history,, Al, this place was abandoned for many years as far as I know and has just recently been remodeled do to the presents of a near by casino.. This place was built in 1919 or there abouts, they had a large horse track there and Al Capone went there to soak in the mineral springs they still furnish.
