How are you printing 20x24+?

Anyone have any tips or interesting enlarger configurations for printing large?

I currently use an omega D5 vertically. It is mounted to my workbench without its baseboard. I can usually print up to 20x24 without having to pull out the leaf in my workbench and go to the short table, which is basically the floor. This system is good up to 30x40. I have thought about putting together some kind of horizontal system for the 30x40 and 40x50+ size range. Anybody using a horizontal system out there with some advice?

I have also thought about getting some type of commercial 8x10-10x10 enlarger, but ceiling height is an issue (~8ft).

I have a Beseler 45MX (MTX?). The whole head tilts back 90 degrees to project horizontally. It is a really slick design.

My Saunders 4500 has a rotating column so I can spin it around and project on the floor or the head rotates 90 degress and I can project on a wall. My Beseler 810MXT is large enough I can do 20x24 on the baseboard.

I suspect your Omega 4x5 is like mine in that it does not swing to do horizontal projection.

Is your column mounted so the head tops out near the ceiling? I would think at around 8 feet you could get to 40x50 on the floor. Also, consider wide angle lenses, like the APO-COMPONON HM 120/5.6 for 4x5.

If there is someway to fit an 8x10 enlarger that would be the ultimate way to go. My Durst (as many other similar enlargers) does 40" across on the baseboard (with a 'normal' lens) and also has wheels for a railroad track to do horizontal projection if needed.

I print alternative prints (kallitype, pt/pd, carbon) with either a 48" bank of BLB fluorescent tubes or with a Amergraph ULF-28 platemaker.

Azo I print with a 20 watt spiral BLB tube.

I don't make enlargements any more to any size.

I shove a front surface mirror at 45 degrees under the enlarger lens on my D2V to project onto the wall. The mirror assembly attaches to the filter thingy using a home-made jig. Front surface mirrors still available from Edmund Scientific I believe.

I'm langedp on APUG. Horizontal is a great way to go if ceiling height is an issue. I just happen to have both a vertical Durst and horizontal DeVere listed for sale in the For Sale/Wanted forum...

Try a wide angle enlarger lens. I think Rodenstock makes them up to 135mm.
