I like the exposure and development a lot on both. I'm not quite as keen on the framing/composition, particularly on the first. I don't like the left side of the arched doorway being right on the edge of the frame.
I suspect these are places you could go again - both look like they are worthy of much deeper looking. I'd look at these as a good starting point on the way to even better things.
Roman Catholic Cathedral, Christchurch, New Zealand
Best, Richard
Behold the wrath of God.
Christchurch has been battered by so much quake damage over the past several years.
This picture clearly, and without artistic license, documents the basic human truth: shock at the failure of the Cathedral, the fundamental refuge.
It also holds the message that, shaken, shattered and cracked, the refuge still stands.
I don't know why, but this picture stands out, with its several stylistic lapses, as a scream from the soul of a lifelong local, numbed by the constant bombardment of journalistic attention to domestic and commercial devastation.
This is a plea to the world, to understand that "Yes, our city core is shattered; yes, our homes are destroyed; yes, our commerce has been devastated; but now, we see that even the Cathedral of our faith has been shaken: now, we too are shaken."
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
