    Dating a Ries...

Ok, so I'm refinishing an old Ries tripod. Spending so much time with it (in pieces and not) has me wanting to learn more about it. I'm curious about how old it is - while it's obviously a Ries (with the name stamped on the head and platform), it doesn't share all the features of current models.

This one's stamped "Ries Camera Co Hollywood CA". The head has the numbers 2507 and 1601 stamped in it. It has lower locking knobs, but no upper ones. It does not have "Ries" emblazoned on the legs. It's a Jr. Deluxe model legset, and the head says "Ries Model C Photoplate Tilt Head, Trade Mark, Reg US Patent Office".

    Any information would be appreciated!

Stating the obvious, but what about asking the company?

I assume you were emailing, maybe give them a call? I called them a few months ago about getting a custom part, and they have were very helpful :-)

Heard back from Ries today - they're guessing the tripod's from the 50s, but want to see photos. They're also looking into replacement parts for me. Too cool...
