Old Ries tripod - wood? Finish?

Ok, so I'm refinishing an old Ries Jr. Deluxe legset, and I'm trying to come up with a decent approximation of the original finish (which is all but gone on this user). I may default to Danish oil, but am wondering if anyone knows what was there originally? And anyone know what kind of wood this is? Maple?

FWIW, I contacted Ries, but they never got back to me...

    Thanks,
    Scott

That's so unusual for Ries not to call back. I'd call again.
