This posted picture of this bridge in Heidelberg reminded me of a photograph I found in my father's army trunk of a bombed out bridge during WWII. I have no idea where this photo was taken, except I think he was in Germany for the occupation after the war near Bamburg. I just thought the similarity was interesting.

This railroad bridge is located near Waldenburg, Germany. Gandolfi 8x10", 240mm, old ORWO reproduction film rated at ISO 1.5.

I set up the camera and metered 4 minutes at f32. As soon as I opened the shutter, it started to rain heavily. As the dark clouds increased, I corrected the exposure to 10 minutes. I had to wipe the lens constantly because of all the raindrops. Towards the end of the exposure, the sun reappeared behind the bridge. When I took the camera down, the rain stopped. Those were the only 10 minutes of rain all day...

In New York City, there used to be a "Bridge of Sighs," connecting the 1902 Tombs prison at left with the 1894 Manhattan Criminal Courts building at right. From the Shorpy archive, a 1907 photo by George Grantham Bain:
