    Lets do a REAL book!

I'm not talking about another print-on-demand book like the last one -- I'm talking a real photo book -- hardcover, offset printing, etc.

I figure the cost of a 100 page book will run about 15 grand for 1000 volumes (less at places like this: http://www.my100books.com/ -- $9000.) That cost is easily covered by a measely $90 to $150 contribution to go with every photo submission. If everyone contributes only 2 photos, we only need 50 people to participate (I think we had that many for the last book).

Then, we get an ISBN number (cost: under $200) and place the book for sale on Amazon.com (yes, you can sell your own books on Amazon as long as it has an ISBN number. Amazon will start out asking for 3 or 4 volumes, but will ask for more as the sales pick up.)

We sell the book for $30, making a $15 profit per volume sold. Sales will be slow and there's no guarantee that anyone will make all of their money back but come on, it'll be fun!

(I suggest the subject to be nudes because they sell well, but could be open subject.)

If you ended up doing an open subject book or even a landscape book, I'm in if any of my work is good enough for ya'll. I don't do the people thing and the wifey isn't the type of wife who's ok with nudes.

Based on that criteria, we are married to the same woman.

    She is a keeper!

No, you're not. My wife is unhappy even when I'm shooting her dressed, and if I really wanted to shoot her nude, she'd think I fell on my head... (to give her some credit, though, once in the 13 years we are together, she agreed for a nude photo session, but that is so long ago. And it was only once, she must have been ill, or what ).

But if the subject is something more manageable for me (landscapes and the like), I'm game.

Not being the one to ask or anything.... but if I put $180-300 toward a book, what would I get out of it? How many copies for that price would we each receive?

At $15-30 a book what would be wrong in expecting 10-20 copies? That way the investment is covered. I know this sounds like money-grabbing, but otherwise the money has evaporated.

    I'm in.

If nudes is what it ends up with, I'll have to do some fast thinking and even faster talking. If it's landscapes, I'll go for a walk. If it's cityscapes or something like that, I'll pull one from the big stack and get a proper scan - or maybe I'll go for a walk?

But anyway, I'm in. I'll take five volumes.
