Thread: an Oregonian new to LF

    an Oregonian new to LF

After years of curiosity about those crazy bellows cameras, I finally came around to large format kind of through the back door. I have been shooting 35 mm for over 20 years, and two things recently happened. I got into pinhole photography and I got into medium format. The medium format photography showed me just what you can get from a larger negative, and the pinhole photography led to a project making a pinhole camera (which is nearly done) from some directions I found online - a camera based on a 4x5 holder.

I then thought, what the hey, maybe I should just get a view camera.

I don't have a view camera, yet, but will probably get one in the next six months or so. I live in Portland, Oregon, USA, and enjoy shooting all sorts of subjects, not least among them the coast, railroads, and the Columbia River Gorge.

Welcome, Farm Boy. Lots of great people here. Just try to avoid the fire swamp, AKA The Lounge.

Welcome from a fellow Oregonian LFer for life.

Shouldn't you be retired and living like a king in Patagonia?

    Welcome!

You should hook up with Kirk Keyes, there's a group of local Portland LF photographers who meet monthly (though I've not been able to attend for a while).

    Thanks for the welcoming comments.

For the Oregonians, I didn't realize there was so much LF around here, but I've met one LF photographer who shops at my wife's bookstore now and then, and I live about a mile from Blue Moon Camera in North Portland, where view cameras are prominently displayed at the front window.

I am unable to make it to the LF gathering in Newport next weekend, but I hope to meet some other LFers soon.

I will look up Kirk Keyes. Is he on this forum?

That would be utterly, totally, and in all other ways inconceivable!

Oh man, I need to get a life!
