    Re: Self Portraits

This winter, I spent a great deal of time at home, so I had little chance of taking portraits of anyone but my family and me. So this one I think I haven't shown:

    Mr. Broadbent,

A masterful photograph, as usual, and a handsome looking young man!

    Hi Jim,

How did you get the seam (I assume there is a seam) invisible? I'm assuming you exposed half the picture at a time because I can't see through your heads to the curtain, so how did you make sure there was no gap or overlap in exposure?

    Re: Self Portraits

I improvised a mat box several inches in front of the lens with two hinged flaps that met perfectly over the backdrop between my two selves. While there would have been some fade-out in the center of the image of either half, the superimposed fade-out areas combined to make a smooth and inconspicuous transition. Care must be taken with such a set-up to not move the camera or backdrop between shots, and to make the hinged flaps meet perfectly at the right spot in the image.
