    eversmart II scanner problem

Expert advise please how to fix this problem with this scanner or suggestions.
Bought a Eversmart II scanner. The former owner gave me his old Mac to try out, because it worked at his place in January with his set up but during the move something happened at my place. During shipping I locked and unlocked the 2 screws.
Had the same problem again as I had with my somewhat newer G3 Mac "Motion Board" communication error.
I also have the diagnostic for this scanner and run it.
Everything okay except "scsi_interrupt_test 0 ( looks like an O but has short lines in the shape of an O) the interrupt_type is 232" and
"Motion Board Communication error ( type e8)" comes up
Found the Motion board, took it out and in again as well as the SCSI board - looks clean no burns.
However there is a red LED light on the Motion board card that blinks all the time.
The green LED light on the SCSI board lights up steady.
Also the green Stand By light next to the green Power light never stops blinking. Should be steady green after 30 sec.
Any specialist out there that could tell me about this problem. The scanner looks so new as I bought it and is hardly used.
Also the carriage moves and lamps come on.
    Thanks again for your effort.

    Re: eversmart II scanner problem

Sounds like a communications error between the SCSI interface and the motion board. If the SCSI cable comes into the scanner on a different board, I'd be looking at the cables between the various boards.

Why? Because dirt and corrosion happen, especially to lightly used equipment, and it usually happens at cable connectors. At least 80% of these kinds of problems end up being connector problems. What to do? For every connector you can find, disconnect and reseat it several times. This will rub through most dirt and corrosion and let contact be made as it should. Plus, it's relatively quick, cheap, and painless. Good first thing to try...

when you move a scitex, you have to put the scsi adress to 0... but when you use it, before turn it on, you have to set an other adress let say 6 for exemple... just turn the selector on the back of the scanner near by the scsi plug...

    Hi
When I moved the eversmart scanner I didn't change the scsi setting.
Scanner was and is on 6, Mac on 7. All show up on eversmart scsi dialog box.
Do I have to use an other setting?
    Thanks

For the Eversmart Supreme the manual suggests you first set the SCSI selector to position #8 before locking, then switch on the scanner and wait 30 seconds until the status lamp is a constant green. Perhaps different models require different settings. You then press the light button on the operator panel and wait 5 seconds for the carriage to move to the locking position. Now you lock the scanner. If you did not follow the procedure for getting the carriage to the lock position, it may not have been properly locked.

Maybe the scanner will be recognized on another SCSI address.

    Good luck,

    Ben

    Thanks for all the advice.
Used different SCSI for scanner.Tried 1,3,4,5.
Last 7 is for Mac G4. All the same result with the Motion Communication Board.
Have to look at the cables as Bruce suggested.
I would like to know if the red LED light blinks on the motion board as it does
now indicating a problem or fault. Should it be out, should it be steady or turn to green.
I think it shouldn't be blinking if there is no fault.
    Just a start.
    Thanks
