My Dad played the Clarinet as a young man, and stopped playing when he started working full time. Upon retirement, he picked up the instrument again. His new Clarinet teacher told him that the single most important thing to strive for, is a beautiful tone: "Almost any piece of music sounds good, if played with a lovely tone".
