New book & print offer for Roman Loranc

Last week, Photography West Gallery in Carmel, CA hosted a reception for Roman Loranc and his new work. The gallery announced they are doing a book of Roman's work, a retrospective titled "Fractal Dreams," due some time next year. If you are familiar with the books the gallery has done over the years, in particular the recent ones for Christopher Burkett & Don Worth, you will know that they are beautifully crafted and have excellent reproductions.

You can buy the hardbound book alone or as a special slip-cased book & print set, with one of five 11x14 prints (images attached; also see Roman's web site). One of the negatives is older and therefore sells for more ($2000 for book & print), but I consider the other prices a bargain considering the book & print sets for the other four photos sell for as little as some of his least expensive prints ($600).

I recommend anyone interested to contact the gallery soon while the book & print offer is still at the entry level price. Ask for Allison Wood, the gallery representative who has handled all my purchases.

    Thanks for the heads-up, Tony.
Some years ago I bought the Photography West book of Paul Caponigro's work, along with his Stonehenge print. (From an investment POV the Running Deer would have been a better choice, but I've never really liked that image, and anyhow I buy for pleasure not investment.) Beautiful reproduction, especially after his poorly reproduced earlier book, "Wise Silence".
Roman Loranc is certainly my favorite traditional Landscape photographer (Clyde Butcher doesn't count as traditional, as his work (and persona) is as unique as St. Ansel's).
I was lucky to have bought Loranc's "Two-Hearted Oak" book when it first appeared, and loved it so much that I gave my copy to my Polish physician colleague for Christmas one year. When I tried to replace it, I found that it was out of print, and instead of being remaindered the $30 price had skyrocketed to $150+ for used copies, while new copies were completely out of sight.
I hope to buy a copy of this latest work, but without the print (times are tough, these days).

Re: New book & print offer for Roman Loranc

Just a minor correction on the Photography West's past books. The Gallery didn't publish Christopher Burkett's books but has done Ruth Bernhard's ‘The Eternal Body’, three of Brett Weston's, Morley Baer, Paul Caponigro and Don Worth.

Bill, I couldn't agree more about Roman's work. In the last week, one of his new pieces jumped from price level 1 to 2, a bit out of my price range. You snooze, you lose.

And as for his book "Two-Hearted Oak," like you, I gave a copy to a good friend for his birthday, as he is from the Modesto area, where many of Roman's earlier photos were taken. Now it is being sold for 4-10x the original price. That's why I buy two copies of books like this--one to enjoy, one for investment or as a gift. Come to think of it, maybe I should buy a third book & print set.

This video clip of Loranc is so inspiring that I watch it every few months.
