Epson Expression 1680 for scanning 4x5 velvia?

Slowly getting the funds together to get a scanner for my 4x5 velvia slides (that D700 release won't help .... must resist..... ). Anyway i've considered the Epson V700 for a long time as the scanner i would get. I intend to scan for the web and at the most 11x14 prints. No more. Any larger and i would get those drum scanned. I'am almost there for the V700 but ran in to the Epson Expression 1680 which is cheaper than the V700. Any idea if it'll work?

I used the Epson Expression 1680 for years before switching to the V750.

Frankly, the switch wasn't that much of a jump. Especially using Silverfast software.

So I think if you can get a 1680 cheap, you'll be fine. Fine until you get a D700. HA!

Now if the D3X appears at my door connected to Nikon's three tilt/shift lenses (24 mm, 45 mm & 85 mm), I may have to get distracted for a while making pictures. Grin.

Walter i'am being particularly swayed by the prices at the epson clearace store. I'am assuming your doing wet mounting with the V750? Why do you say it wasen't a big step up?

No I do not do wet mounting. Mostly I scan 8x10, so don't want the mess all over the machine.

I was expecting a much more bold jump in quality from the 1680 to the V750. The V750 is a little better, but not like WOW, especially below 11x14 print size. For the web, you won't see the difference in scans.
