Question Which lab to process 4x5 Velvia in Philadelphia and Times Square?

    Hello everyone,
I'll be traveling the east coast for a few weeks and would like to process my film before flying home. Any suggestions for labs in the Philadelphia and Times Square (NYC) areas?

Thank you for all your help. This will be my first excursion with my 4x5...eek!

Well in Washington DC (Georgetown) it's Chrome Inc

They can ship your processed film home via FedEx.

Thank you Walter for suggesting Chrome Imaging. Unfortunately, I will not be in Washington DC on this trip, but I will keep it in the hopper for my future trip to the Smithsonian Museums, etc. there.

In New York, I recommend Duggal (www.duggal.com) for E-6, but if you have to use a lab close to Times Square, try Modernage (www.modernage.com). I used to favor Modernage, but in the last few years, I've gotten the sense that Duggal is running a higher volume of sheet film, and producing more consistent results in my experience. Duggal used to be notorious for unpleasant service, if you weren't a high volume customer, but I think they've mellowed out as the demand for film processing has declined and realized that it's in their best interest to have happy customers.

Thank you so much David - Modern Age is exactly what I was looking for - its within walking distance to my hotel...we will be venturing around so Duggal might work also, but can't beat convenience. And it's perfect - right at the end of our trip.

Are the carriage rides still happening around Central Park? - I heard they were going to go away soon. Such a loss.....

I would also check out LTI. I use them for all my color (E6 & C41).
They do fantastic work and are reasonably priced. Most of my clients use them also.
E-6 is done in 3 hours and C41 in 6.

LTI is located at 34 East 30th and Park ave.

    Hi Ian,
Thank you for the recommendation to LTI. They must do good work to get your recommendation. Where we walk/taxi will actually determine which lab I use, but I think between the 3, I should be able to process everything before heading home.
    Thanks again,

    Hi Michie---

I would strongly recommend LTI, or any of the labs in Chelsea (L&I, Duggal or Color Edge) over modernage....Modern Age is good for other things but not so much for processing as the lab does relatively little work and the chemicals sit, the turn around is longer and they make a lot of mistakes. I teach at the International Center of Photography which is two blocks away and going to Chelsea is worth the 10 minute trip on the train!

This is my sense as well. They used to do a really high volume of film processing and wet printing, but as they started shifting more to digital services it hasn't been the same.

The owner of LTI also owns Sixty-Eight Degrees, which is a pretty good B&W lab, though I haven't used them recently since Patty Katchur left a couple of years ago.
