My first Linhof, also a Tech IV, has the same case! I don't use it though, but it is very nicely made. Yours is in nicer condition I think. I also have some older and newer Linhof cases from various cameras. My favorite is the really nice leather briefcase that came with my Linhof 70.

My Toyo 45A this morning. I needed it as far against the side as possible to avoid bright glare in the background. The camera was unavoidably tilted to the side, so I rotated the back to align it to vertical.

Sands & Hunter Exhibition 5x4; circa 1882-1883. Updated images & info.

As recorded in "The Photographic Studios of Europe", By Henry Baden Pritchard, 1882, page 217, Paul Nadar made reference to his desire to travel to England specifically to purchase these English made cameras. The Sands & Hunter Exhibition 5x4 was also listed in "The Journal and Transactions of the Photographic Society of Great Britain, as being part of the Photographic Society of Great Britain Exhibition of 1883, which ran from 8 October - 15 November of that year. By 1883 Sands & Hunter was advertising the "Exhibition" camera line as having been awarded two Silver Metals. This particular camera shows signs of having been thoroughly used. It then decorated a Dahlonega Georgia book store for many decades. I read somewhere that Paul Nadar's apparatus and existing Nadar apparatus was all auctioned to the public sometime in the 1950's following his death, no specifics. Whether or not this particular camera was part of that sale is not known. When the camera was received it had the RD Gray Periscope No. 6 as the installed lens. Probably a good portrait lens, but this has been replaced with a lens of much shorter focus, which was made specifically for R. H. McBean of Edinburgh, circa 1890's I believe. The camera, as I received it, came with the original 5x4 camera-back and three book-style plate holders. All parts retain serial/model numbers that match the camera itself. One holder also contained two special metal/mahogany inserts which appear to be designed for paper negatives, patented 1884. :-)
